Our Dreams Were Never Ours

The day I lost sight
of who I am,
was the day they threw us
into education.

They moulded us
into perfect products,
so that we could be replicas
of their successes and dreams.

Would you ask the stars
to take back their shine?
Or tell the flowers
to hide in spring?

Would you build a ship
with sails reaching the skies,
only to keep it safe
in the harbour?

We were made for the seas,
to sail into the horizons.
We were made to be
different.

But are we just reflections
of each other,
concealing who we are
with who we’re supposed to be?
