Immortal

My love for you will never die
though mountains have formed
and rivers run dry
since we last held hands
under velvet skies, where we
counted stars and talked about
dreams, like they were ours
to decide.

My love for you will never die
though it’s been so long since I
last saw your face, I’ve forgotten
how it felt to have your hands
tracing the contours of my skin
on lavender sheets as you tell me
things, of a future that was not
ours to keep.

My love for you will never die
It is kept alive in these words,
in these sheets, in my dreams;
Immortal.
