Time, It Just Wasn’t Ours

The days are too short
and the nights too long when I think
of all the ways we could be.
Time, it just wasn’t ours.
They say you will know it
when you find that one person
who fits you in all your weird edges,
that one person who sees you
for the person you could never become,
that one person who you can do things
you never thought you would do,
like jump off a cliff ten feet into the sea,
even though you are afraid of heights,
and you know that nothing
will ever be the same.
They didn’t tell you that time
is the worst enemy of them all.
