Complete

This is a poem I wrote after reading “When I don’t desire God” by John Piper. The search for true and lasting joy resonated deeply with me.

—–
It is a chasing after the wind,
a mindless pursuit of endless things,
meaningless things,
things that have become treasures
proudly seated on golden thrones
for admiration and envy.

Our depraved hearts are longing
to be set free
from the bondages of earthly comforts
and securities.

Open my eyes to see your worth,
to know the hope that we have
is not on this earth,
but a hope that is
unfailing, unchanging,
and everlasting.

I want no more of empty promises
or false hopes.
No, all of my hopes and fears,
desires and tears, I lay at your feet,
and there, my joy will be
complete.
